All The World

One of our favorites in The O'Regan household for a few year now is Liz Garton Scanlon's peaceful All The World.  Miss Nancy at The Storybook Shoppe recommended it to us a few years ago and it's a treasured favorite. With Caldecott Honor Medalist Marla Frazee, this beautifully illustrated book lets children know everyone in the world is connected and the world is much larger than just them alone.  It's a book about harmony, peace, family, the environment, and respect. Though the topics are abstract, I believe the overall message is very clear.

Molly and Connor love the rhythm of the simple sentences like this one. There are endless things to search for in the detailed illustrations.

The ending, resounding message is "All the world is all of us." It's opens a broader discussion about what that means.

This book makes a wonderful addition to your child's library.  We also love giving it as a birthday present! You can buy it now right here on our blog and have it shipped to your door.  Have you seen our online store? Balloons over Broadway

What are your Thanksgiving Day traditions? I know of plenty of people who do the same thing ever year. While cooking, they watch the Macy's Day Parade!  As a young girl, I remember the exceptional floats and best of all, Santa arriving on his sleigh at the end!  I can almost hear the announcer saying: "Santa should be arriving soon!" and the excitement I felt.

Miss Nancy at The Storybook Shoppe recommended Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet to our family for Thanksgiving.  It is the true story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade! From when Tony was a little boy to how he became the puppeteer of the parade, this story follows his interest in marionettes.

The illustrations in this book keep things very interesting.  A mix of hand drawn illustrations, photos, and varying fonts for text, keep this book visually riveting.  It's a collage style that is uncommon and therefore, appealing.  There's even an unexpected twist in the middle, when you turn the books orientation vertically, to see the float.  Melissa Sweet won a Caldecott Honor for her mixed media collage illustrations.

The book is quite involved, though my daughter who is 4 enjoyed it, we recommend it for ages 5+.   We think it's great for anyone with an interest in parades!

Balloons Over Broadway is the perfect gift for Thanksgiving to add to your library at home and we are selling it for 10% off the list price. Buy it here, right on the blog! Just check out with PayPal and we will ship it to your door within days.  This one is a treasured keepsake for the holidays.
