Nancy Beaupre

My name is Nancy Beaupre and I am the owner of The Storybook Shoppe. I have had a life long love for Children’s books starting when my parents read to me as a very young child. One of my first book memories was when one of my aunts gave me a copy of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit. I loved the small size of the book and the delightful story, and it is still a favorite of mine. When I was young and living in a small village in Michigan, my mother would take my sister and me to The Old Red House, one of the first children’s book stores in the United States. It was always such a magical place to go to. A book purchased from there was always special. Our family also went to the library on a regular basis and I loved bringing home the books I had chosen that week. Even after my sister and I could read on our own, my mother would read a chapter from one of our books after we got into bed at night. That is another favorite memory.

When I was twenty years old, one of my mother’s friends who knew I loved children’s book gave me an ABC book for Christmas and told me it could be the start of a collection of books for children. I loved the idea and started to collect them. I now have over 2000 of them and they are  housed in a reading room in our home at Habersham. Having moved many times since we were married, my husband, Larry, says he wished I had collected fans instead! I graduated from Michigan State University with a B S degree in Child Development and Teaching. I have owned and operated two nursery schools and then went on to open a children’s book store in a 1830′s yellow Greek Revival home with green shutters (similar to The Old Red House I went to as a child). I only had the shop a few years because Larry was working for Ford Motor Company at that time and our family was moved to Melbourne, Australia for his job. We absolutely loved living in Australia and we still have an apartment in Melbourne where we usually spend several months a year. We have one son, Peter, who lives near Lake Tahoe. He received an MBA at The University of Melbourne and is involved with environmentally friendly housing. We still give him a children’s book each Christmas as we have for the past thirty three years. He has quite a collection of his own now. I hope you will visit me in my shop and let me show you all the fabulous books I have for children. I think it is a magical place and hope you will also feel the same way.

Jean Morgan

Jean graduated from the State University of New York, College at Geneseo with a degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. She also attended library school at the University of South Carolina. Jean is a former second grade teacher and later she was the Children’s Services Manager at the Hilton Head Branch and the Bluffton Branch Libraries. She is very excited to share her love of reading and beautiful books with the families of our community. Jean invites you to “come by” and welcome her back from retirement. Jean’s speciality will be helping you with books from preschool through early elementary.

Jean lives in Bluffton with her husband Don who was in the Air Force. They have traveled and lived in many places. They have one son who lives in Texas.

Bonnie Shank Derounian

Bonnie graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in secondary education and she received her master’s degree in Elementary and Middle School Language Arts from the University of Alabama. She spent thirteen years teaching English/Language Arts in the middle and high schools for the Panama Canal Company and twenty-two years for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Okinawa, Japan and Mannheim, Germany. Bonnie told me she is so happy working at the store and loves being with the children and introducing them to new books. She will help our customers with literary selections from 5th grade to high school.

Bonnie also lives in Bluffton and travels often to Shanghai, China where her two son’s live. She enjoys volunteering at Literacy Volunteers of the Low Country and Heroes on Horseback.

Libby O'Regan 

Libby is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.F.A in Printmaking (Fine Arts) and a B.A. in Communication Studies.  She founded "Libby O Marketing" in May 2013 which focuses on social media and blogging for creative and interesting companies with an emphasis on online sales.   To learn more, visit:  libbyomarketing.com 

Libby and her husband, Mike, have 2 children - Molly (4) and Connor (1) and live in Bluffton, SC.
